How difficult is it to maintain my pool?

If you are professional guitar player, playing guitar is easy. For me, I like to play guitar but I am in no way a professional guitar player. Hey, I still don’t know how to tune my guitar. Thank goodness for guitar tuners. I still like to play the few cords that I’ve learned 30 years ago and I have fun with it.

But ask me to play a song (correctly) and I am lost. For me that is difficult.

The same can be said for maintaining your pool. For us professionals, it is not difficult at all. But for the novice, it can be a daunting task. Like guitar tuning, there are several things that you could learn such as: pH, sanitation, oxidation, total dissolved solids, calcium hardness, isocyanuric acid, algaecides, run times, flow rates, filter pressure, saturation index, trichor, dichlor, liquid chlorine, muriatic acid, flocculants, chelating agents, phosphates, diatomaceous earth, sodium hypochlorite, sodium chloride, reagents, Orthotolodine, and so on. Again, for the pool professional, this is easy peasy.

My tips for those that want to maintain your pool yourself is to invest in a good test kit and learn the basics of chlorine, pH, and conditioner. You should have your water tested for all of the other stuff by a professional so you get started on the right foot.

Next, pic a day of the week and clean and treat you pool on that day every week. If you can be disciplined enough to do that you can get by and it might also be fun (except on those windy days).

Lastly, get a good go-to pool company that you can establish a relationship with that can help you with the things that you know you don’t know.
